The best way to decide whether Word Roots is right for your school is to use it with your pupils. Choose the programme that fits them, teach it with support from us, and see what they have learned.

Designed for real school delivery
Word Roots is built around clear routines, structured teaching and resources that fit into normal school delivery. During the pilot, we also refined lesson flow, assessment and implementation guidance so that staff have a clear route through the programme.
Built on encouraging early evidence
Our first school pilot produced encouraging movement in reading, morphological knowledge, comprehension and writing, with particularly strong gains among pupils who began from lower starting points.
Strongest gains for lower starting pupils
Across participating groups, pupils who began from lower starting points made average gains of between 17.3 and 22.7 percentage points.
Knowledge transferred into reading
Word-parts meaning, root recognition, context application and comprehension all ended above baseline. Comprehension also improved across the matched reading cohort, suggesting that learning transferred beyond recognising roots in isolation.
Writing outcomes were positive
Across the matched pilot data, the average writing score rose by 15.1 percentage points.
Every pupil with matched writing data improved or maintained their baseline score.
At the end, it's your choice
Your Evidence Pilot ends after the agreed 12-week period. There is no automatic renewal and no obligation to continue.
If you take out an annual Word Roots licence within 30 days of your pilot ending, we’ll credit the full £500 pilot payment against it. Your annual licence will run for 12 months from the date your pilot began, leaving £1,450 to pay at the current annual price.
If you would rather start a new 12-month licence after the pilot, you can do that at the full annual price of £1,950. In that case, the £500 pilot payment is not credited.

We’ll agree your access dates before you begin so there is enough time to complete the programme and both assessments.
