A morphology-first pathway from word knowledge to curriculum confidence
Word Roots is for pupils who can read the words on the page, but struggle to unlock the language of the curriculum. Through explicit morphology teaching, pupils learn how prefixes, roots, suffixes and word families work, then apply that knowledge to reading, discussion and writing.
The programme builds the missing bridge between decoding, vocabulary, comprehension and curriculum access. Pupils learn to spot patterns, decode academic language, handle complex sentences and use evidence clearly.
Through three connected pathways — The Word Odyssey, Time Cypher Bureau and Hidden Worlds — Word Roots supports learners from early literacy catch-up through to pre-GCSE academic language.

One morphology-first model. Three routes into curriculum confidence.
Word Roots grows with the learner: from story-led morphology, through KS3 literacy missions, to pre-GCSE academic language.

The Word Odyssey
Story-led morphology for pupils rebuilding vocabulary, reading and writing confidence
A richly structured pathway that uses narrative, repetition and explicit morphology teaching to help pupils decode unfamiliar words, strengthen comprehension and begin using new vocabulary with confidence.
Best for: early literacy catch-up, upper KS2, transition and pupils who need high-support re-engagement.
The Word Odyssey
Story-led morphology for pupils rebuilding vocabulary, reading and writing confidence

Time Cypher Bureau
A KS3 route into stronger vocabulary, reading and sentence control
A mission-driven pathway that helps pupils decode academic language, read with greater confidence and build sentence-level control through structured routines, retrieval and scaffolded literacy practice.
Best for: KS3 intervention, literacy catch-up and pupils who need a motivating bridge into secondary English.
Time Cypher Bureau
A KS3 route into stronger vocabulary, reading and sentence control

Hidden Worlds
A pre-GCSE bridge into academic language and curriculum access
A knowledge-rich, non-fiction pathway for pupils who can read, but are not yet secure with the vocabulary, syntax and evidence demands of the secondary curriculum.
Best for: older KS3 pupils, pre-GCSE literacy, whole-class academic language development and curriculum access across subjects.
Hidden Worlds
A pre-GCSE bridge into academic language and curriculum access
